MEET THE BAND

Little’ John Thompson (Bass) - Son of Beach Music legend, Big John Thompson and a professional musician of almost 30 years, Little John grew up in his hometown of Kernersville, NC, before moving to Greensboro for his college career. He was the creator and owner of another Greensboro based party band, Hip Pocket, for whom he spent over 17 years with touring up & down the East coast until the band dissolved in 2021. Wanting to go back to his roots and rediscover the music that he loved most, John established The ROAR in 2023 because he saw an opportunity to fill, what he calls, a void in the local music scene. According to him, The ROAR was created to break down the walls of your typical band by allowing music from all genres and all eras to be considered for the stage, whilst at it’s core, shining a light on more of the groups that make up the underground jam band scene such as, Phish and The Grateful Dead.

Dylan Murphy (Guitar) - Hailing from Yadkinville, NC, at just 23 years of age, Dylan is by far the youngest member in the group. But what he lacks in experience, he completely makes up for with his raw prodigal talent and inherent soul. He is also a former member of, Hip Pocket, as well as, the very popular country group, Red Dirt Revival. Dylan breathes energy into the group with his authentic love for music and his mind blowing abilities on a guitar. Because of him, you’ll never leave a ROAR show without saying, “WOW!”

Jeff Yetter (Keys) - Originally from Wilmington, Delaware, Yetter (as he’s best known} first transplanted to NC to attend college at UNCG’s School of Business. Along with most of his worldly possessions at the time, he brought with him a vast knowledge of the music world, especially that which made up the jam band scene. But the most important things he brought to the Tarheel state were his keyboards and his talent for shredding on them. Yetter has played with several groups since his move to NC including The (Original) ROAR, None The Wiser, Thacker Dairy Road, The Greensbrothers and Doby. Needless to say, the man knows his way around the ivories and the stage. If given the chance, he’ll melt an entire crowd of faces with his outstanding piano solos and powerful organ rides proving as always, that Life Is Better With Yetter!

John McDaniels (Drums) - Known to his friends as, Big Cat or Flanders, John is the only Greensboro native in the group. Although he left for a few years to attend college at Western Carolina and graduate as a Catamount, he returned to the Gate City to pursue his career and eventually start a family. Had he not, the backbone of The ROAR would be in serious question today. Flanders eats and breathes music, which over the years, has allotted him to develop a wealth of musical knowledge that is unmatched. This unique gift inevitably carries over to his style(s) of playing. Whether he’s laying back in the pocket to anchor some funk in place, or driving us through the paces of a Rock ‘n Roll track… John adds that crucial element of stability to the foundation of The ROAR which is notorious for fueling the party and keeping the dancers at pace during every show.

Formed in 2023 and based out of Greensboro, NC, The ROAR is a fresh force on the music scene, blending the infectious grooves of Jam Band, Motown, Funk, 80’s Classics, and good old Rock n Roll.

Our mission? To bring a next-level funk experience that guarantees a party, whether you're in the crowd or enjoying a Shakedown Street vibe in the parking lot!

We cover a wide range of iconic artists, from Phish and the Grateful Dead to Prince and Michael Jackson, infusing each song with our own unique energy and flair. Our repertoire is packed with fan-favorites that get everyone moving, ensuring that no one leaves without a smile.
